The German aluminium tube manufacturer with more than 70 years of presence, Tubex has managed to be among the first 50 packaging companies worldwide to have their GHG emission reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The approval of the short-term emissions reduction goals by SBTi is a significant milestone for the company's sustainability roadmap.
SBTi has evaluated and certified Tubex Aluminium Tubes' group-wide near-term reduction objectives for greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The company's scope 1 and 2 objective ambition has been categorised by the SBTi, which has decided that it is consistent with a 1.5°C trajectory. These include emissions from the operations of Tubex Aluminium Tubes and those in the supplier chain (scope 1, 2 and 3).
"Our ambitious targets are consistent with the Paris Agreement to limit global warming to 1.5°C/well below 2°C. They cover emissions from TUBEX Aluminium Tubes' own operations and from our supply chain (scope 1, 2 and 3)," said Tubex.
As per the reports, the German aluminium tube manufacturer pledges to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by at least 42 per cent by 2030, and scope 3 GHG emissions by 42% also.
"The SBTi approval of our GHG reduction targets underlines our commitment to taking serious and transparent action on climate and supporting sustainable development. We have decided to commit to SBTi to be in line with the latest climate science and to provide our stakeholders with transparency and accountability in the terminology we use to describe our goals. We are very pleased to be leading the way as the first aluminium tube manufacturer worldwide to be validated by the SBTi," said Thierry Bitout, CEO of Tubex Aluminum Tubes.
"This major step on our sustainability journey has inspired us to keep thinking about what more we can do. Which is why we are now also exploring routes to reaching net zero by 2050," added the company.
