Sarginsons, an advanced aluminium diecasting firm in Coventry, has been awarded a £6 million grant aimed at expanding its workforce, upgrading equipment, and enhancing its recycling network. The foundry will collaborate with partners, including Aston Martin, on a research initiative to develop lighter vehicle components.
About the programme
Sarginsons plans to utilise 100 per cent recycled aluminium in vehicle production to enhance sustainability and reduce costs while maintaining performance standards. The initiative will also incorporate artificial intelligence (AI) to design new chassis components for an existing Aston Martin model to lower development costs.
The programme is funded by the not-for-profit organisation Advanced Propulsion Centre and Innovate UK. Additionally, the funds will support efforts to transition away from directly mined aluminium. Gavin Shipley from Sarginsons expressed that this research could "lay the blueprint" for industries seeking to improve manufacturing efficiency sustainably.
