Sanjeev Gupta’s Alvance Aluminium, a subsidiary of GFG Alliance is going to hold two extra live sessions in regards to the consultation on plans for a new £94 million recycling and aluminium billet plant at its Lochaber smelter in Fort William.

Until 15th March 2021, the public consultation will be running and following the first live consultation event last week, Alvance will host two further online sessions from 10.30-11.30am on 9th March and from 4-5 pm on 11th March 2021. The project team members will be on hand to answer any questions through a live chat function.
Brian King, Chairman, Alvance British Aluminium, said: “We are encouraged by the response so far but also conscious that the current pandemic restrictions and the requirement to conduct the consultation virtually present their challenges.”
“Therefore, we have decided to hold further virtual drop-in sessions to ensure everyone who wants to participate can do so.”
In November’20, Alvance Aluminium announced its plans for a new recycling and casting facility that will double its aluminium production at the smelter from over 40,000 tonnes per annum to more than 80,000 tonnes by utilising domestic scrap aluminium that is currently exported.
Alvance said: “Once approved, the new integrated business plan and associated developments will secure the long-term future of the Fort William smelter, safeguarding 200 local jobs and creating 70 new high-quality roles.”
Alvance targets to initiate the new development works in 2021 and kick-off full operation by 2024, subject to approvals and any further impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
