RWM 2017 Exhibition draws support from leading aluminium recycling trade bodies

RMW, the leading community for waste, energy, recycling and water sectors for networking and trading, is set to organize this year’s edition of Exhibition amid much fanfare. The UK’s leading aluminium recycling trade bodies Alupro, Resource Association, and The Alliance Beverage Cartons and the Environment UK (ACE), have joined forces for the event scheduled for opening on September 12, 2017.

The three-day exhibition will see the most influential waste and resource trade associations and aluminium recyclers of UK thronging NEC Birmingham and gaining insight into the sector’s recycling and reprocessing capability, capacity and industry challenges.

The UK has made remarkable progress in aluminium recycling in the recent years. In 2016, the country’s total collection of recovered aluminium reached 90,000 tonnes. Aluminium recycling rate here now stands at 50 per cent.

Well-strategized, jointly-funded campaigns ideated and run by the metal packaging sector have targeted wide cross-section of the society reaching over 5.5 million household across as many as 81 local authorities. Recent surveys show that metal capture rates in the UK are increasing and there is a visible change in people’s behaviour toward aluminium and other waste recycling.

Through RMW 2017, UK resource and recycling trade bodies aim to further raise the standards of recycling and secondary manufacturing.

"The value our recycling trade associations add to the UK's economy is second to none and it will be great to see them all gathered together at RWM highlighting the work we all do and the future of recycling in Britain," said a senior associate.

Echoing his sentiment Simon Ellin of The Recycling Association said: "We're getting closer to a point where secondary is the new primary. By working collaboratively across the supply chain, with government, and by focusing on quality, secondary commodities are increasingly being selected over virgin alternatives."
