Leading global aluminium producer Rusal announced results for the three and nine months ended 30 September 2018.
Rusal produced 5.816 million tonnes of alumina in the first nine months of 2018, almost flat YoY. Alumina production stood at 2 million tonnes in Q3 2018, as compared to 1.96 million tonnes in Q3 2017.
{alcircleadd}Sales of alumina dropped by 4.5% to 1.457millio tonnes for the nine months 2018, as compared to 1.526 million tonnes sold through nine months of 2017. Revenue from sales of alumina increased by 34.1% to USD719 million for the nine months ended 30 September of 2018 from USD536 million in the corresponding period of 2017 primarily due to an increase in the average sales price by 40.5%, which was partially offset by a decrease in the sales volumes by 4.5%.
Rusal produced 10 million tonnes of bauxite during January-September 2018, a year-on-year increase of 16.4% from last year’s nine- month 2017 total of 8.7 million tonnes. The company achieved total production of 3.84 million tonnes of bauxite in Q3 2018, up 40.3% year-on-year from 2.74 million tonnes in Q3 2017.
Revenue from other sales, including sales of bauxite and energy services increased by 22.5% to USD484 million in the nine months ended 30 September of 2018 from USD395 million in the same period of 2017 due to an increase in sales of other materials.
