Rusal, the world's largest aluminium company by primary aluminium output, announced that it produced cast alloy with a higher share of recycled aluminium content, which increased to 25-30 per cent. The alloy is tailored primarily for the automotive industry.
This new alloy is equivalent to Rusal's primary equivalent foundry alloys (PEFA), consisting of more than a quarter of recycled aluminium. From the initial 20 per cent, the recycled metal content in this alloy has been increased to 25 to 30 per cent.
This new cast alloy fully aligns with OEM requirements, meeting the need for recycled content and a low-carbon footprint. Moreover, the scrap sourcing approach for PEFA is more methodical than the approach followed in the case of primary foundry alloys, helping Rusal with its commitment to carbon neutrality and strengthening its role in the circular economy. The approach also aligns with Rusal's Climate Strategy.
"RUSAL offers a wide range of low carbon foundry alloys to the largest companies, including exclusive patented alloys. More than a hundred of RUSAL's customers, including industry leaders in producing automotive components around the world, also receive RUSAL's exceptional technical support services for their own production. Qualifications of PEFA are ongoing with five global automotive parts suppliers," commented Global Sales and Marketing Director of RUSAL Roman Andryushin. "By introducing end-of-life scrap into the production of foundry alloys, RUSAL creates new opportunities for companies to strengthen their potential in a low-carbon circular economy, which is based on an adaptive, safe and inclusive value chain, as well as advanced technological solutions."
