Naivedya Agarwal, son of Navin Agarwal, Chairman of Vedanta Limited, India’s leading producer of aluminium, founded Runaya in 2017 to seize the market of aluminium dross, which now pulls in around INR 150 crore turnovers.

The second most used metal in the world is aluminium, which has an annual consumption of around 88 million tonnes including scrap and it is considered as a vital sector of the Indian economy that boasts of vast mineral potential.
The domestic aluminium exports registered growth by 18.2% from 1.724 million tonnes in 2017-18 to 2.038 million tonnes in 2018-19.
As India is envisaged to pursue to be among the major centre of primary production growth, there is a need to provide sustainable solutions for the dross generated as the by-product in the processing of aluminium.
Naivedya Agarwal, Founder of Runaya, said: “1.5% dross is generated in the production of aluminium and globally, over 10 lakh tonnes of this hazardous waste is generated annually for which there was no sustainable solution."

Naivedya Agarwal, a descendent of Vedanta Group decided to start a business of his own to seize the opportunities dross generated to recover potential metal and develop new products.
In 2017 Naivedya and his brother Annanya Agarwal founded Runaya as a manufacturing startup that leverages technology and relationships with global partners to create innovative solutions in the resources sector.
Naivedya added: “We have established a sustainability and recovery project in Orissa, where we are processing 100% of aluminium dross recovered from Vedanta, Nalco, and Hindalco via a patented German technology through a two-stage hot and cold recovery process and recover 40% of aluminium by weight.”
