The Quebec aluminium industry has always been known for its urge to support the primary producers, equipment makers and suppliers in business by ensuring the latest innovations, open to suggestions and working together.
However, in its latest success stories, the industry witnessed a significant collaboration between Rio Tinto, Propulsa and EPIQ MECFOR for successfully installing the first EPURA self-cleaning filtering system with a stand-alone carbon cartridge on an EPIQ MECFOR anode hauler. Over the coming months, this new technology will be tested at Rio Tinto's Grande-Baie mill.
The commercialization of EPURA's patented technology is in its early stages. There are now two variants available: EPURA cabin and EPURA engine. The EPURA cabin system with a carbon cartridge is the one that is being tested at Rio Tinto's Grande-Baie plant. A high-performance fan in this system enables continuous and constant pressurization of an operational cabin regardless of how clogged the filter is. Additionally, it has a standalone carbon cartridge that can be refilled to absorb gases. The EPURA product line's newest component is the carbon filter.
Therefore, completing this initial project with EPIQ Machinery and Rio Tinto is crucial. This prototype installation has high objectives and demands:
A Propulsa technician will examine and gather information on the system's general health weekly. In-cabin gas tests will be done by the customer to ensure that the HF and SO2 exposure limitations are always satisfied. EPURA's performance and efficiency will only be confirmed at the end of the three-month prototype study.
The elimination of filter changes and simplified maintenance are two objectives of the EPURA filtering system. The device uses pressure sensors to determine when the filter is severely clogged and automatically cleans itself. Air quality is guaranteed for the operator. System monitoring is always done by fail-safe procedures.
The sensor's initial reading indicates whether to start the self-cleaning cycle or not. In the event of a failure, another indicator allows an action to be taken without risking the health and safety of the operators. The self-cleaning filter is not dependent on the carbon cartridge like other similar devices. With this design, just the carbon may be changed.
Propulsa's innovative air filtration technology, which has been granted patents in more than 32 countries, offers industrial vehicle owners several unique advantages. EPIQ Machinery is happy to help this cutting-edge filtration technology develop.
