The local Red Cross unit in Quimper, France now distributes recyclable aluminium water bottles during patrols. They are mainly offered to people on the street. They will replace plastic bottles. A "zero plastic" approach carried out thanks to financial assistance from the City of Quimper and Quimper Bretagne Occidentale.

200 gourdes will be distributed during the next marauding. 1,000 recyclable aluminium water bottles were made and the operation costs 3,500 euros. From 3rd December’20, the Red Cross will give two per person, during its marauding. The aluminium water bottles have a capacity of 40 cl.

The beneficiaries will be able to fill their water bottles at the various water points accessible throughout the city. It is also an opportunity to promote tap water and favour its consumption. Then during the marauding, the Red Cross will offer water cans to fill them.
The other 800 aluminium water bottles will be used for other operations to raise awareness of environmental issues (sports associations, etc.).
Gérard Corre, a volunteer of the Red Cross, explains: “The recyclable water bottles will allow a significant reduction in plastic waste, as 2000 plastic bottles are thrown in the streets, gutters, at Odet River and the sea, in Quimper.”
