According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. End-use demand from automobiles and other sectors improved marginally, but the peak season effect has yet to fully materialise. Spectro Alloys Corp has announced $5.5 million expansion at its Rosemount aluminium recycling facility in Minnesota. The expansion will not only boost recycling capabilities but also create jobs and improve melting safety and efficiency by reducing gas and electricity consumption. GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL), which operates the airport, is readying to install waste recycling machines to motivate people to recycle used aluminium beverage cans, steel cans, PET bottles and plastic bags before they leave the place for their individual destinations. The city of Houston is resuming its curbside recycling program in November that was suspended more than two months. The city's Solid Waste Management Department announced the resumption will commence starting November 13. The recyclable materials include paper, cardboard, clean food cartons, plastic containers numbers one through five and seven, aluminium cans and bimetal cans. Glass will not be accepted in the curbside recycling program. The recycling service will begin from November 13 for “B Week” residents and November 20 for “A Week” residents.
