According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. End-use demand from automobiles and other sectors improved marginally, but the peak season effect has yet to fully materialise. The total exports of aluminium scrap from the US to China during the first five months of the year amounted to 94,900 tonnes versus 191,000 tonnes during the same period last year. The United States aluminium imports (including scrap) in May 2020 stood at 423,000 tonnes, registering a downfall of 5.16 per cent from 446,000 tonnes in April, found the latest date of the US Geological Survey. The imports in April were significantly up by 59.29 per cent from 280,000 tonnes in March.
