According to SMM survey statistics, the operating rate of the secondary aluminium alloy industry in September was 35.0 per cent, up 3.1 percentage points M-o-M but down 6.7 percentage points Y-o-Y. Industry production continued its recovery trend, but the overall operating level remained below the same period last year. On the demand side, September marked the traditional peak consumption season, with downstream orders recovering from August. End-use demand from automobiles and other sectors improved marginally, but the peak season effect has yet to fully materialise. The United States, in the first quarter of 2020 (January-March), exported 73,400 tonnes of aluminium scrap to Malaysia, according to the latest US Geological Survey data. Year-on-year, the export recorded a hike of 88 per cent from 39,100 tonnes. In March 2020, the country exported 24,400 tonnes of scrap to Malaysia, 8.4 per cent higher than 22,500 tonnes month-on-month. On a yearly basis, the export stood up by 60.52 per cent from 15,200 tonnes. Norsk Hydro has announced today, on July 8, that its aluminium recycling plant in Azuqueca, Spain is ramped-up and all set to start producing the sought-after recycled aluminium Hydro CIRCAL. Hydro says the project has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but delivered on budget and with zero injuries.
