
Luxembourg has a strong and long-standing track record in manufacturing and processing both traditional and innovative materials including, high-performance steel, aluminium, plastics and polymers, value-added composites, functionality glass processed, wood panels and adhesive paper. Hydro's largest aluminium remelting operation in Europe is located in Clervaux. The plant remelts aluminium scrap into extrusion ingot, with capacity topping 115,000 metric tons per year.

The European nation’s aluminium scrap import during 2017-19 has been recorded with high volume and expenditure, as the import volume during the phase stood at 419,869 tonnes and the revenue expenditure remained at $527.30 million. The scrap import projection for 2020 has been evaluated at 137,101 tonnes and expenditure to stand at $171.12. When the estimated import volume and expenditure of 2020 gets totalled with the existing three years it stands at 556,970 tonnes and $698.42 million respectively.
In 2017, Luxembourg’s import of aluminium scrap was recorded at 100,925 tonnes and the expenditure stood at $125.63 million, whereas in 2018 the aluminium scraps import surged to 172,274 tonnes, rise by 70.69% and the expenditures also climbed to $217.96 million.
The aluminium scrap importation in 2019 saw de-growth by 14.86%, as the import volume remained at 146,670 tonnes and the expenditures also dropped to $183.71 million, while the projected import for 2020 has also been analysed with a dip by 6.52%, as the import volume might fall to 137,101 tonnes.
The major exporting nations for Luxembourg’s import of aluminium scrap are Austria, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, France, Switzerland, Portugal, Spain, etc.
