Qatar Green Building Council awarded for sustainability initiative at CW 2016

<p>Qatar Green Building Council&rsquo;s (QGBC) Qatar Green Directory was honoured with the Sustainability Initiative of the Year award at the Construction Week Awards 2016.<br /><br />This initiative was outlined to increase awareness and education for advancing sustainable development and environment across globe as well as in domestic market.<br /><br />Aluminium is recognized as one of the most energy efficient and sustainable construction materials. As the world is striving for more environment sustainability, aluminium is a big part of the solution. The estimated recycled content of aluminium building materials used today is between 50 and 85 %. Use of aluminium helps building projects qualify for green building status.</p> <p><img style="vertical-align: middle; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" src="http://www.alcircle.com/uploads/images/QATAR.jpg" alt="News" width="517" height="226" /><br />CW&rsquo;s panel appreciated QGBC for its educational ambitions, with one judge commenting on the initiative&rsquo;s potential to help people better understand the environmental and economic benefits of sustainable construction.<br /><br />Meshal al-Shamari, director, QGBC, said: "We were awarded under the same category at the Construction Week Qatar Awards 2016 this September, so it feels very good to be recognised again. <br /><br />"Next year, we'll submit our Green Life initiative for an award," Al-Shamari added. <br /><br />{googleAdsense}<br /><br />Ecocoast Contracting&rsquo;s Marine Protection and Rehabilitation programme was also named this year&rsquo;s highly commended sustainability initiative.<br /><br />An independent panel of seven judges made up from industry professionals from across the GCC and throughout the construction sector, selected winners in 14 categories at the CW Awards 2016.</p>
