Hydro announced Johan Berg, plant manager at Husnes, has been appointed as Chief Operations Officer at Hydro’s Qatalum joint-venture smelter in Qatar. The Federal Government of Nigeria has reportedly approved a power supply to ALSCON, the Aluminium Smelter Company of Nigeria, to help it return to its full production capacity. The news came after the Minister of State for Mines and Steel Development Dr. Uchechukwu Sampson Ogah made an official announcement during his extensive tour of ALSCON facility in Ikot-Abasi, Akwa Ibom State. China’s primary aluminium production stood at 3.25 million tonnes in April (30 production days), up by 9.87% year on year, showed an SMM survey. In January-April, the output totalled 12.94 million tonnes, an increase of 8.6% from the same period last year. “Baikuang Debao and Tianlin continued to release output in April, and the average daily output in Inner Mongolia rose slightly by 400 mt from March,” SMM reported.
