
Domestic primary aluminium production in the United States in August 2021 stood at 73,000 tonnes, essentially unchanged from July 2021 but down year-on-year by 7,000 tonnes or 8.75 per cent from 80,000 tonnes, showed the latest data revealed by the US Census Bureau.

The average daily production in August 2021 also remained the same as in the previous month at 2,360 tonnes but reflected a downfall of 9 per cent from 2,580 tonnes a year ago.
Total aluminium recovered from scrap in August was 267,000 tonnes, 1,000 tonnes less than 268,000 tonnes in July and 3,000 tonnes less than 270,000 tonnes in August 2020. Of this, 142,000 tonnes of aluminium was recovered from new scrap and 125,000 tonnes from old scrap.
In August 2021, the average US spot market price of primary aluminium ingot was $1.52 per pound, 5 per cent more than $1.44 per pound in July 2021, and 62 per cent more than $0.96 per pound in August 2020.
Inventories of primary aluminium in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States decreased to 91,860 tonnes at the end of August 2021 from 99,745 tonnes at the end of July 2021. Inventories of secondary aluminium (North American Secondary Aluminium Alloy Contract) in LME-approved warehouses, including off-warrant inventories, in the United States decreased to 9,625 tonnes at the end of August 2021 from 10,904 tonnes at the end of July 2021.
