Primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe grows 3% during May’21; Output in West Europe increases by 4%

According to the International Aluminium Institute data, primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe during May 2021 stood at 351,000 tonnes. That was an increase of 2.93 per cent or 10,000 tonnes from 341,000 tonnes a month ago. The output in March was a little higher than April at 352,000 tonnes and up by 10.34 per cent from 319,000 tonnes in February.

On a year-on-year calculation, on the other hand, primary aluminium production in East & Central Europe during May 2021 found flat, according to IAI data.

In the first five months of the year, East & Central Europe produced 1.717 million tonnes of primary aluminium in total, which was 1 per cent less than 1.734 million tonnes during the same period last year.

In West Europe, primary aluminium production during May came in at 292,000 tonnes, up by 11,000 tonnes or 3.91 per cent month-on-month. In April, West produced 281,000 tonnes of aluminium compared to 288,000 tonnes in March.

On a year-on-year basis, primary aluminium production in West Europe during May 2021 edged 2.82 per cent higher than 284,000 tonnes.

During January-May, primary aluminium production in West Europe totalled 1.405 million tonnes, up 0.72 per cent from 1.395 million tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
