
According to the International Aluminium Institute, primary aluminium production in Africa stood at 130,000 tonnes during June 2021. That was down by 6,000 tonnes or 4.41 per cent from 136,000 tonnes in May but same as the output in April 2021 and June 2020.

Africa’s aluminium production in the second quarter, from April to June, amounted to 396,000 tonnes – 11,000 tonnes or 2.86 per cent more than 385,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2021. But on a year-on-year basis, the output in Q2 was down by 1.49 per cent from 402,000 tonnes.
Africa’s aluminium production in the first half of 2021 totalled 781,000 tonnes, down by 2.86 per cent from 804,000 tonnes during the same period last year.
World primary aluminium production in June came in at 5.549 million tonnes, 3.50 per cent less than 5.750 million tonnes in May but 4.54 per cent higher than 5.308 million tonnes. Total production in the second quarter of the year stood at 16.842 million tonnes, an increase of 1.12 per cent month-on-month from 16.655 million tonnes and 5.13 per cent on year from 16.020 million tonnes.
