Fashion house Prada's Spring Summer 2024 menswear show featured a unique design created by Dutch studio AMO. The show occurred in the Deposito space of the Fondazione Prada art centre in Milan, which Rem Koolhaas designed. AMO covered the walls, floor, and ceiling with aluminium, creating a cage-like structure for the show.

However, the ever-shifting "walls" of the space were formed by 3,000 kilos of slime dripping down from the ceiling, creating green puddles on the floor. Industrial lamps around the ceiling lit up the catwalk, giving it a clinical feel.
Prada added in a statement: "The concept of fluidity framing the human form again expands, represented through the show space in the Deposito of the Fondazione Prada. Abstract walls are evoked through fluid interruptions, forming an ever-shifting enfilade through which the models process."
The design aimed to add an organic aspect to the industrial space, changing the audience's perception and interaction with the models.
The Fluid Form collection, designed by Prada founder Miuccia Prada and co-creative director Raf Simons, inspired the show's design. The collection examined fluid architecture around the human body and featured soft, squishy leather bags and looser interpretations of traditionally structured shirts.
The brand stated: "The ultimate aim is a constant awareness of the body within and its liberation."
AMO has created numerous show designs for Prada in the Fondazione Prada space, including a moving ceiling, art deco chandeliers for the Autumn Winter 2023 menswear show, and an oversized paper house for last summer's menswear show. Their suppliers will recycle both the aluminium structure and the slime used in the show, propagating material circularity in fashion and architecture.
Prada remarked: "These clothes are ultimately reflective of our natural state – the dynamic movement and constant transformation inherent to humanity."
Aluminium is 100% recyclable and, maybe for its eco-friendly properties, was chosen by AMO and Prada as the best material to represent their theme of fluidity with strength. Moreover, aluminium reminds us of the endless cycle of reciprocity, which is fundamental to fashion. It justifies the saying, "What goes around comes around", as fashion is invented and reinvented time and again, keeping the base agenda intact; to look presentable.
