NORD’s nsd tupH surface treatment ensures corrosion resistance to aluminium-based components

NORD DRIVESYSTEMS now offers a solution for the needs of drive technology for harsh environmental conditions in the range of products acquainted with conventional geared motors. The nsd tupH Sealed Surface Conversion System from NORD has a unique treatment that renders drive surfaces with aluminium housings exceptionally corrosion-resistant, comparable to stainless steel.

The nsd tupH surface treatment protects gear units, smooth surface motors, frequency inverters, and motor starters in washdown-optimised cast aluminium housings against corrosion. This is not a coating but an electrolytic treatment that forms a protective layer permanently linked to the substrate material. The treatment is not only cost-effective but is also available for a larger product range composed of aluminium.

As a result, nothing can detach or flake off. Drives with the nsd tupH surface treatment are acid and alkali resistant and simple to clean. The nsd tupH surface treatment is available for practically all drive components. It also broadens the use of aluminium alloys in gear unit manufacture. Where formerly stainless steel was favoured, the benefits of lightweight aluminium may now be used.

The surface of the aluminium is honed using a specific procedure to make it highly robust. This layer, when combined with a unique sealing procedure, is up to 7 times tougher than basic aluminium and up to 1000 times harder than paints and lacquers - and so has extremely low wear characteristics. As it is not a paint coat that may detach or flake off, it offers unparalleled corrosion protection.

The drives are simple to clean and highly resistant to acids and alkalis. High-pressure cleansers and a broad range of aggressive media may also be used. As a result, nsd tupH drive units are a cost-effective alternative to painted geared motors or stainless steel models. Unlike stainless steel drives, which are only available in a few variations, nsd tupH surface treatment is available for practically all NORD aluminium products.
