PepsiCo has launched its brand-new pep+ Partners for Tomorrow platform, which was created to provide services aimed at assisting its clients in reaching their sustainability objectives. The programme will first target American consumers, with hopes to spread it to important international countries by 2024.
At launch, Partners for Tomorrow programs included CIRQU (the latest evolution of the PBNA-led program formerly known as BottleLoop), which consisted of the on-demand collecting of recyclable beverage containers for food service and retail clients. PepsiCo subsequently processes and recovers these containers to create recycled PET packaging.
To make it simple and cost-free for its consumers to contribute to ensuring that aluminium, plastic and glass containers are collected and recycled and that the recycled materials are incorporated into the supply chain to be reused, PepsiCo Beverages North America (PBNA) has teamed with Replenysh. Five times as many communities were served by the programme in 2022 compared to 2021. In 10 states and 58 localities, more than 250 host locations are actively collecting data.
"PepsiCo has a long history of working together with our partners to advance shared sustainability goals. The Partners for Tomorrow platform aims to scale those solutions to foster the most effective partnerships and longstanding impact. With this platform, we're leveraging the shared scale of PepsiCo's and our customers' businesses to maximize impact, drive progress toward our pep+ goals, and benefit both our businesses, the planet and the communities we serve," said Todd Squarek, senior vice president, chief sustainability officer for PepsiCo Beverages North America.
In support of its objective to supply 20 per cent of all beverage servings it sells via reusable models by 2030, PepsiCo is testing many reusable cup solutions with partners in a few regions. Recently, PepsiCo started a trial programme for reusable cups with the grand reopening of Baltimore, Maryland's CFG Bank Arena, by Oak View Group.
The concept uses gamification with TURN to encourage event participants to return reusable cups after use. Previously, the SodaStream team ran an on-campus university pilot that combined SodaStream in-home units for dorm rooms with a reusable SodaStream bottle that could be filled at various locations. The PepsiCo Foodservice team developed branded aluminium 'collector' cups with a top convenience retailer.
According to the firm, Partners for Tomorrow will consolidate all PepsiCo's customer sustainability services under a single platform to deliver the vital solutions the company's partners most urgently require. They will collaborate closely with them to carry out the projects. These initiatives align with pep+ (PepsiCo Positive), a strategic end-to-end business transformation initiative focusing on human capital and sustainability to deliver long-term sustainable company performance and value.
