Orxa assembles an aerospace-grade aluminium frame for the Mantis electric bike

EDITED BY : 3MINS READ

Orxa Energies has recently unleashed its electric motorcycle, Mantis, on the road. It has been six years since the company unveiled the look of the first prototype. With an aerospace-grade aluminium structure, the E-bike is extraordinarily lightweight and agile.

Aluminium is widely used in the manufacturing of automobiles and motorcycles due to its excellent properties, such as high strength-to-weight ratio, good corrosion resistance, and ease of processing. The Orxa Mantis is no exception when it comes to the use of aluminium in its construction.

The motorcycle features an aerospace-grade aluminium frame that houses its components, thereby reducing its overall weight and increasing its performance. The use of aluminium in the Orxa Mantis was not a random choice but a result of a lot of research and development.

The team at Orxa Energies conducted extensive research to identify the best materials for their electric motorcycle, and aluminium emerged as the clear winner due to its properties. The team then went on to develop an aerospace-grade aluminium frame that could withstand the stresses and strains of high-speed riding while keeping the overall weight of the motorcycle in check.

If you wish to learn more about the use of aluminium in the transportation sector, please have a look at AL Circle’s specially comprised report on the same topic, Future of Aluminium in Transportation Sector.

Moreover, the use of aluminium in the Orxa Mantis is not just limited to its frame but also extends to other components such as the wheels, handlebars, and footpegs. These components are also made of aluminium, which not only reduces the weight of the motorcycle but also makes it more durable and resistant to corrosion.

Some of the salient features of the Orxa Mantis electric motorcycle are:

  • The Mantis motorcycle has a liquid-cooled motor and ride-by-wire throttle control
  • It has a maximum power of 27.9 bhp and a torque of 9.48 kgm
  • The motorcycle can go from 0 to 100 kmph in 8.9 seconds and has a top speed of 135 kmph
  • The Mantis has an estimated range of 221 km on a single charge
  • There are two options for battery chargers
  • Standard 1.3 kW charger and a faster 3.3 kW blitz charger
  • An optional 45-litre top box allows riders to carry the 3.3 kW blitz charger to eliminate range anxiety

In conclusion, the use of aluminium in the Orxa Mantis is a testament to the importance of material selection in the design and development of high-performance electric motorcycles. It is a clear example of how the right choice of materials can make a significant difference in the performance, durability, and overall quality of a product.
