The can manufacturing facility at Dandenong, of Orora, has recently taken a strategic step by incorporating Helio, a new high-speed digital can decorator. The company focuses on using various new innovative measures for packaging its beverage cans. Helio is one of its kind, which would assist the company in using digital printing technology to produce uniquely designed cans.

The print solution is now operational at Dandenong, which helps in producing customised decorated cans for users across all categories, including craft beer, carbonated soft drinks, Ready-To-Drink alcohol (RTDs), kombucha and sparkling water.

Chris Smith, the Cans Executive General Manager of Orora, said, “As a leading can manufacturer, our role has always been to support our customers and their brands in meeting the needs and interests of their consumers. Helio allows us to take this even further as primary packaging plays an important part of the marketing mix, with compelling decoration influencing the product purchase decision. We’re excited to be offering this new high-speed digital printing solution out of our Dandenong cans manufacturing facility, to service customers across the Oceania region.”

The incorporation of Helio includes a total installation of USD 80 million size can line at its Dandenong site, which was completed by June 2023. This investment has helped in the formulation of new skilled job opportunities in the Victoria region. The Minister of Industry and Advanced Manufacturing in Victoria has visited the Dandenong site of Orora Cans to celebrate its first initiative to decorate its cans using Helio.

Minister Brooks said: “Victoria is leading the way in advanced manufacturing, and Orora’s Helio technology is a great example of how local innovation is transforming global industries. This investment is not only delivering cutting-edge packaging solutions but also supporting skilled jobs and strengthening our state’s manufacturing capability.”
