Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday held discussions with Anil Agarwal regarding the progress of Vedanta Group’s proposed projects in the state, which together involve investments of more than INR 100,000 million (USD 10,400 million).

The meeting reviewed several key projects planned by Vedanta Group, including a 6 million tonnes per annum alumina refinery in Rayagada, a 3 MTPA aluminium smelter and a 6,000 MW power plant in Dhenkanal.

The discussions also covered plans for a downstream aluminium park and integrated coal and bauxite operations linked to the broader project pipeline.

According to the Chief Minister, the state government will now review progress on Vedanta’s projects every 15 days to ensure faster execution and timely commencement of work. Majhi said the investments are expected to create significant employment opportunities and support Odisha’s long-term industrial growth plans.

The state government said land allocation for the proposed alumina refinery, aluminium smelter and power plant has already been completed, while supporting infrastructure work is continuing.

Vedanta’s new coal block is also expected to begin operations later this year.

In addition, the Ministry of Railways has approved a proposed rail link connected to the company’s upcoming bauxite mining project. The planned downstream aluminium park near the smelter unit is expected to focus on manufacturing advanced aluminium products for sectors including aerospace, electric vehicles and defence.

Officials said the projects are also likely to support the growth of smaller industries and MSMEs across the state. Agarwal said the investments would help strengthen Odisha’s industrial base while generating large-scale employment opportunities.

He also said Odisha has the potential to emerge as a major global aluminium hub as the state continues expanding its mining and metals sector.

Senior government officials and Vedanta executives were also present during the meeting.
