The Odisha government has reportedly planned to host a two-day event - Advantage Angul, intending to showcase investment opportunities in downstream and ancillary industries of aluminium and steel sectors in Angul district, Odisha. The government has planned this event after Union Minister R P Singh inaugurated one of the world’s largest and most modern TMT Rebar mills in Angul a few days ago.
The event is scheduled on Monday and Tuesday at the Angul Aluminium Park, jointly developed by NALCO and state-owned Idco. Chief minister Naveen Patnaik is expected to attend the event virtually.
According to state industries secretary Hamanta Sharma, major players like NALCO, Tata Steel, JSPL, and others will bring prospective investors from the metal downstream sector to the event to let them explore investment opportunities to be showcased by the state government and district administration.
He said the idea behind this event, which is a first for any district, is to attract investors from downstream and ancillary industries for Angul Aluminium Park. “Growth of downstream and ancillary industries will accelerate economic growth and create adequate investment opportunities,” said Sharma.
Angul Aluminium Park spreads across 223 acres and is considered a prime infrastructure to boost downstream industries. “Investors will be able to directly obtain molten aluminium from Nalco’s smelter. It will provide state-of-the-art, plug-and-play industrial infrastructure to prospective investors,” said an official source.
Besides the aluminium park, Angul district also has three industrial estates and one MSME park, which also have potential to attract downstream investments.
