This year, the Citywide Ferry will provide 19 new aluminium vessels to travel between waterfront communities throughout New York City. A total of six routes and 21 landings designed will connect New Yorkers and visitors to the City’s waterfront communities.
The ferries are built in collaboration with the Hornblower and Metal Shark companies in Louisiana. The Citywide Ferry Service is a proposed network of ferry routes in New York City operated by Hornblower Cruises.
Maria Torres-Springer, the CEO of New York City's Economic Development Corporation, said, "This growing demand is one of the reasons we're expanding ferry service citywide in 2017.We're very excited to incorporate the East River route into Citywide Ferry Service, and connect New Yorkers from Sound view to the Rockaways for the price of a subway ride."

The ferries are made of aluminium so that it can boost fuel efficiency and keep the vessels lightweight. The fleet of 19 aluminium vessels is equal to more than 77 million cans of aluminium.
Through Citywide Ferry project, the New Yorkers will be able to sail from Sound view section of the Bronx to the Rockaways for just $2.75.
