
According to the NT Mining Production summary, the Northern Territory registered its highest ever minerals sales worth $3.63 billion during the 2016-17 period. Minister for Primary Industry and Resources, Ken Vowles, said “So it is encouraging to see a 19 per cent increase in mining production sales on the last financial year.”
The Northern Territory produced 98, 58,279 tonnes and sold 97, 07,372 tonnes of bauxite during the 2016-2017. The value of bauxite stood at $452 million.

During 2016-2017, metallic minerals including bauxite, manganese and gold dore were valued at $3.3 billion. The Northern Territory is endowed with a wide range of mineral commodities including bauxite, manganese and zinc-lead.
Ken Vowles, said: “Of particular note is the value of manganese produced, which rose 79 per cent on the previous year to $1.48 billion, and the value of combined zinc-lead concentrate, which increased 29 per cent on the previous year, to $650 million.
“The resources sector is responsible for around 4800 jobs in the Territory, and this government is supporting the sustainable development of the mining industry, as it is a cornerstone of the Territory economy.”
“We are providing potential investors with geoscientific data and information, and simplifying and streamlining application processes.”
