Nord Drivesystems will showcase its latest drive innovations at the iba 2025 in Düsseldorf, tailored for hygienically sensitive applications in the baking and confectionery sector. A highlight of their presentation will be the NXD tupH process—NORD's advanced aluminium surface treatment technology—designed to meet the industry's stringent hygiene and durability requirements.
The food industry imposes strict hygiene requirements on all equipment, including drive systems. In addition to offering high reliability and energy-efficient performance, these drives must also be easy to clean thoroughly and quickly. At iba 2025 in Düsseldorf, NORD will present a comprehensive range of solutions designed for hygienically sensitive environments.
{alcircleadd}NXD tupH surface treatment for aluminium
Nord's NXD tupH surface treatment significantly enhances the corrosion resistance of drives with aluminium housings. Aluminium offers key advantages—it is lightweight, cost-effective, and fully recyclable. Additionally, compared to materials like stainless steel, aluminium housings provide superior heat conductivity, helping to lower maximum surface temperatures during operation.
The NXD tupH coating features a base layer that converts the outer surface of the aluminium body into a highly corrosion-resistant layer. When combined with a sealing layer, this treatment delivers exceptional durability and hardness—surpassing that of untreated aluminium alloys. It also prevents flaking and corrosive penetration, ensuring long-lasting protection even if the surface experiences minor mechanical damage.
Drives treated with the NXD tupH surface finish offer high resistance to acids and alkalis, allowing for easy, thorough, and hygienic cleaning. This makes them especially well-suited for hygiene-sensitive environments across the food, beverage, packaging, pharmaceutical, and chemical industries. The NXD tupH coating is also free from PFAS and certified as food-safe in accordance with FDA standards, EU Regulation 1935/2004, and the relevant regulations in Switzerland and the MERCOSUR countries.
Why prefer Nord's NXD tupH surface treatment technology?
Nord's smooth-surfaced, fanless IE5+ synchronous motors (TENV) deliver high-efficiency drive solutions tailored for the food and beverage industry as well as intralogistics. Available with power ratings up to 2.2 kW, they offer continuous torque from 1.6 to 10.0 Nm and speeds reaching up to 2,100 rpm. Their smooth, hygiene-optimised design ensures easy cleaning, while the optional food-safe NXD tupH surface treatment enhances corrosion resistance and wash-down capability—ideal for use in hygiene-critical settings. An IP69K protection class is also available.
The compact SAFOMI-IEC adapter (SAFOMI = Sealless Adapter For Mixers), developed by Nord Drivesystem, is specifically designed for use in mixers and agitators. Featuring an integrated oil expansion chamber, it eliminates the need for external oil hoses and radial shaft seals—components often prone to leakage and wear—resulting in enhanced reliability and reduced maintenance. When paired with MAXXDRIVE industrial gear units, SAFOMI delivers significant performance advantages. It is available for MAXXDRIVE parallel gear units in sizes 7 to 11, supporting output torques from 25 to 75 kNm. The combination of the MAXXDRIVE gear unit, SAFOMI-IEC adapter, and a drive motor offers a compact, efficient solution for mixer and agitator applications, minimising both wear and external components.
