Nissan's Casting Australia Plant in Dandenong South has officially received the Australian-made certification, allowing all its towbars and aluminium castings to display the iconic green-and-gold kangaroo logo proudly. This certification is granted under rigorous standards, confirming that the final, significant transformation of the product occurs within Australia.
The Australian-made logo is one of the nation's most trusted and recognised symbols. According to Roy Morgan's research, it enjoys 99 per cent national recognition, with 91 per cent of Australians expressing a desire to see more Australian-made products available in the market.
"The Nissan Casting Australia Plant is a true local automotive manufacturing success story, and it's one we're incredibly proud of. Earning official Australian-made certification is recognition of the team's hard work over a long period of time in producing world-class componentry that appears in Nissan vehicles around the world," said Andrew Humberstone, Managing Director of Nissan Oceania.
Established in 1982, Nissan Casting Australia Plant (NCAP) has grown into a powerhouse of precision engineering, now employing 192 skilled staff and contractors. The facility produces 25 high-pressure die-cast aluminium components and six types of towbars, supporting both local and international supply chains.
As the automotive industry accelerates toward a zero-emissions future, NCAP has evolved to meet the moment. Its annual output of 1.2 million parts now includes critical components for cutting-edge vehicles like the Nissan Leaf, X-Trail, and Patrol, as well as advanced electric motors that power the next generation of mobility.
"For many years, the Nissan Casting Australia Plant team has included something of an Easter egg on each of its components sent overseas—a distinctive kangaroo insignia. Following the official Australian Made certification, it's exciting to see the kangaroo take on a new and globally recognised life of its own with the Australian Made logo embedded for the world to see," Humberstone added.
From hybrid e-POWER systems to traditional internal combustion engines, NCAP's expertise spans a wide range of technologies. Remarkably, the plant is the exclusive global supplier of 40 specialised components an achievement that underscores its world-class capabilities and pivotal role in Nissan's global operations.
Ben Lazzaro, Chief Executive of Australian Made Campaign Limited, expressed, "It's great to see Nissan Casting Plant Australia strengthen its commitment to local manufacturing and begin stamping their aluminium castings and towbars with the iconic kangaroo. There is a growing demand for Australian products, with country-of-origin increasingly influencing purchasing decisions," Lazzaro continued. "As we know, Aussie products are manufactured to some of the highest standards in the world, making them trusted and known for their safety and quality."
