NALCO’s Damanjodi Alumina Refinery to get a new crusher and conveyor system: Foundation stone laid by Minister of Mines, India

The Minister of Mines, India, Pralhad Joshi on 25th February’20 laid the foundation stone of Crusher and Conveyor System at NALCO’s Mining & Refinery (M&R) Complex in Damanjodi, Odisha.

The new system will feed bauxite for the 5th stream of Alumina refinery of the company. The estimated cost would be around INR.483 crore and expected to be completed by April’22.

While interacting with the employees of NALCO at M&R Complex in Damanjodi after laying the foundation stone, the Minister of Mines of India Mr Joshi said: “We as a country aim to reach a $5 trillion economy by 2024 and I am sure NALCO will be a success story in this growth trajectory.”

The minister also visited Panchpatmali bauxite mine located in the Koraput district, the largest bauxite mine in Asia, having a bauxite deposit of approx. 310 million tonnes.

Referring to the fact that Odisha has about 51% of the country’s bauxite, Mr Joshi said: “Our Govt. has taken a number of steps to unlock the mining potential of mineral-rich States for the benefit of the country as well as the population residing in these areas.”

The Minister of mines also appreciated the Odisha State Government for delivering support towards mining activities in the region and emphasized that it will help to boost the economy and bringing development to the state.

On 24th February’20, Mr Joshi chaired a review meeting of NALCO at Visakhapatnam and the senior officials of the organization were directed to increase the production to achieve annual targets while paying due attention to safety.

He also professed his happiness over NALCO becoming the world’s cheapest producer of Bauxite & Alumina for the 4th consecutive year and applauded NALCO for achieving capacity utilization amid challenges arising out of operating in a remote location.
