Under Shri Patra's transformative leadership, NALCO reached new heights, achieving robust growth and championing mining and metal production sustainability. Known for his strategic vision and commitment to excellence, he steered the company through an era of unprecedented progress, securing NALCO's position as a beacon in the global aluminium sector. His tenure was marked by a blend of innovation and resilience, ensuring that NALCO not only grew but thrived amidst evolving industry dynamics.

In its regulatory announcement, NALCO stated, "On attaining the age of superannuation, Sridhar Patra, Chairman-cum-Managing Director of the Company, has been released from service with effect from October 31, 2024".

His retirement marks the end of an era, but his vision will continue to inspire the company's future direction.

As NALCO looks ahead, the company extends its best wishes to Patra for a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement, celebrating a legacy that colleagues and industry peers will cherish.

Sridhar Patra took on the role of Chairman and Managing Director of NALCO, a Navratna CPSE, on December 17, 2019. Prior to this, he served as Director (Finance) at both NALCO and THDC. Under his leadership, NALCO achieved record-breaking profits, even navigating through the unprecedented challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the most difficult periods in recent global history.

On September 18, 2024, AL Circle reported that the Public Enterprise Selection Board (PESB), a high-powered body constituted by the Government of India, selected Brijendra Pratap Singh as the next Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Schedule 'A' Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU).

Update November 2, 2024

However, in a regulatory filing, NALCO announced that Sanjay Lohiya, IAS, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Mines, has taken on the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) at NALCO effective November 2, 2024. This temporary appointment follows the retirement of Shri Sridhar Patra, the outgoing CMD, on October 31, 2024. Lohiya will serve as CMD until the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approves a new appointee, a permanent replacement assumes the role, the ACC assigns additional responsibilities, or further orders are issued, whichever occurs first.
