MWSD expands global footprint- opens forged aluminium truck wheels shop in Germany

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

The UK based leading distributor of commercial vehicle wheels- Motor Wheel Service Distribution (MWSD) is planning to establish a new company in Germany early next year to expand its aftermarket distribution network in Europe and then use it to establish strategic partnerships with truck trailer OEMs in the region, reported sources aware of the developments in the tyres and accessories sector. MSWD presently distributes Speedline's Xlite and Xbrite+ range of aluminium wheels, and aims at reaching out to the aluminium forged wheel markets in continental Europe.

Motor Wheel Service has been active in the wheel industry for more than eight decades, and for the past 35 years has concentrated on the distribution of commercial vehicle wheels. Whilst the initial focus was on steel wheels, around a decade ago the Manchester-based company decided to explore the forged aluminium wheel market in cooperation with the manufacturer Wheels India.

The forged aluminium wheel market was at a nascent stage when MSWD decided to enter into this business around a decade ago. Only Alcoa had the requisite expertise to carve a niche in this market, and it was later joined by Speedline. Since then, these products have gained a considerable market share thanks to their light-weight, greater stability and pleasing aesthetics.

Today MWSD distributes Speedline's signature forged aluminium wheels as well as steel wheels. While MWSD has offered the Xlite and Xbrite+ ranges via resellers in Germany’s aftermarket for some time now, by establishing its own firm it aims to substantially expand its presence in the German aftermarket and then, in the medium-term, establish a foothold with major trailer manufacturers. Mardle describes both ranges as “premium-quality products."

The Indian commercial vehicle wheel manufacturer is part of the TVS Group and is one of the largest wheel manufacturers in the world. In the financial year ending 31 March 2016 the company achieved a turnover of INR20.18 billion (£226.29 million).
