Most Chinese aluminium smelters return to profit territory

Most Chinese aluminium smelters have returned to profit-making territory at current aluminium prices , SMM statistics found.
The weighted average full cost was 10,774 yuan per tonne at Chinese aluminium smelters in SMM’s survey’s sample in March.
SMM calculates that about 2.36 million tonnes, or 7.95 per cent of operational aluminium capacity in China still suffered losses in cash costs in March when aluminium prices were at 11,000 yuan per tonne. Similarly, about 12.71 million tonnes, or 42.8 per cent of operational aluminium capacity in China still suffered losses in full costs when aluminium prices were at 11,000 yuan per tonne.
SMM spot aluminium prices averaged 11,298 yuan per tonne in the week ending March 18, up 92 yuan per tonne from a week ago.
