The frontrunner in sustainable minerals processing technologies, end-to-end solutions and services globally, Metso Outotec introduced the Vertical Pressure Filter (VPF) to extract optimized solids from aluminate solutions. The VPF will also support removing suspended solids before alumina hydrate precipitation. This will further help in reducing the entrained particulate concentration from sodium aluminate solutions to a level of only a few milligrams per litre.

The Vertical Pressure Filter (VPF) is a part of Metso Outotec’s portfolio of Planet Positive products and is created to improve the overall process performance, dressing costs, and also sustainability.
Steps like the automatic cloth cleaning and cake discharge at the end of each filtration cycle provide the highest filtration time in the following cycles. The Vertical Pressure Filter (VPF) also comes with sequence control for multiple filters and can also be used jointly with the automation system of the plant.
All in all the Vertical Pressure Filter (VPF) is safe and cost-efficient, both in terms of maintenances as well as its operation. During cake discharge, filtration, cloth cleaning, the filter vessel remains closed and can also be opened for maintenance and inspection. Using an overhead crane the filter leaves can be replaced easily.
The VPF has a very compact design and can be easily placed anywhere. It also consumes less space, thus helping in minimizing the construction cost. Because of the prolonged filtration cycle for 18 hours, the downtime requirement for cake discharge and cloth cleaning becomes less.
Not only has this, but the cloth cleaning system also helped in increasing the lifeline of the cloth. The filter does not have any moving parts, thus the wear part consumption and the cost per cubic meter maintenance of product filtrate also becomes low.
