
In the first two months of 2022, alumina production in Africa & Asia totalled 2.224 million tonnes, with the output in February at 1.075 million tonnes, down by 6.44 per cent month-on-month, found the International Aluminium Institute’s data. In January, alumina production in Africa & Asia stood at 1.149 million tonnes, also down by 3.29 per cent month-on-month from 1.188 million tonnes.

Africa & Asia’s total alumina production in two months included 2.159 million tonnes of metallurgical grade, up by 7.57 per cent from 2.007 million tonnes during the same period last year.
On a year-on-year calculation, Africa & Asia’s alumina output in February 2022 stood 4.78 per cent higher than 1.026 million tonnes.
According to IAI data, alumina production in Africa & Asia during the second half of 2021 amounted to 6.756 million tonnes, up by 4.68 per cent from 6.454 million tonnes in H1 2021.
World alumina production in February 2022 came in at 10.606 million tonnes – 8.8 per cent less than 11.629 million tonnes in January 2022 but 1 per cent more than 10.505 million tonnes a year ago.

But despite the decline in monthly production, the daily average output of alumina in February 2022 stood mostly unchanged at 375,200 tonnes, compared to 374,900 tonnes in January 2022.
