Maxion Wheels, the world’s largest wheel manufacturer, held a ground breaking ceremony (Bhoomi Poojan) at the site of its aluminium wheel plant in Khed City, Pune. The ceremony was attended by company dignitaries, customers, suppliers and associates on February 19.
Pieter Klinkers, CEO of Maxion Wheels said: “With our new Pune passenger car aluminium wheel plant, Maxion Wheels becomes the first global light vehicle aluminium wheel producer in the Indian market. We responded to our growing global customers’ requests, and made the investment to join them in the world’s fastest-growing economy.”
The facility will manufacture four million aluminium wheels annually. The aluminium wheel plant will produce low pressure die cast aluminium wheels with a high-end wheel finish. Start of production is expected in the third quarter of 2019.
The company will make an investment of more than $50 million on the land and state-of-the-art plant and equipment. The new wholly-owned operation will create 1,000 new direct and indirect jobs in the region.
