
The Maltese economy is a highly industrialised, service-based economy. It is classified as an advanced economy by the International Monetary Fund and is counted as a high-income country by the World Bank and an innovation-driven economy by the World Economic Forum. The economy is expected to rebound strongly by 7% in 2021 as per IMF.

The island nation over the central Mediterranean recorded importation of 969 tonnes of aluminium foil during 2018-19 and the revenue expended for the expenditure was $5.57 million. The import for 2020 stood at 641 tonnes and expenditure remained at $3.75 million. However, when the import volume and expenditure of 2020 gets clubbed with the existing two years, it illustrates 1610 tonnes and $9.32 million respectively.

In 2018, the Maltese import of aluminium foil remained at 374 tonnes and the expenditure accounted for the import was $2.23 million, whereas, in 2019, the import demonstrated a surge by 59.09%, as the import volume rose to 595 tonnes and the expenditure grew to $3.34 million.
The import for 2020 also displayed a further growth by 7.73%, as the import volume grew to 641 tonnes and the expenditure also rose to $3.75 million.
Malta’s major trading destinations for the importation of aluminium foil are Bahrain, China, Germany, Greece, Italy, Turkey, USA, Netherlands, etc.
