
In March 2023, the United States exported 38,500 tonnes of aluminium scrap to Malaysia compared to 31,000 tonnes in February, found the US Census Bureau data. Thus, on a month-on-month calculation, the aluminium scrap exports from the US to Malaysia registered an increase of 7,500 tonnes or 24.19 per cent, following a monthly restraint in February compared to 30,700 tonnes in January 2023.

On a year-on-year basis, the US aluminium scrap exports to Malaysia soared by 1,341 per cent from 2,670 tonnes.
In Q1 2023, the United States exported 100,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap in total to Malaysia, according to the USGS data. On an annual basis, the quarterly output stood 1,157.86 per cent higher than 7,950 tonnes.
Malaysia emerged as the highest aluminium scrap importer from the US in March 2023, exceeding India’s imports at 36,400 tonnes. But Malaysia’s cumulative import volume in Q1 stood behind India by 3.41 per cent than 96,700 tonnes. South Korea was the third-largest importer of aluminium scrap from the US, securing 25,300 tonnes of material. That was 4.55 per cent higher month-on-month than 24,200 tonnes and 581.94 per cent more year-on-year than 3,710 tonnes.
The United States total aluminium scrap exports during the first quarter of 2023 was 496,000 tonnes, up by 372.38 per cent from 105,000 tonnes a year ago.
