A Madison County roadway that has seen serious flooding will be upgraded and protected with a new aluminium box culvert. As said by roads Superintendent Willie Willis, the aluminium culvert will keep flood water at bay in that area.
According to Madison County Judge/Executive Reagan Taylor, the new aluminium box culvert that will replace Knob Lick Bridge will be the first of its kind in the county and they are very excited about it.
{alcircleadd}Willis added that the aluminium culvert is much cheaper, durable and stronger than building a concrete culvert. The culvert project will be financed by the state transportation cabinet's 80/20 Bridge Replacement funding.
Contech Engineered Solutions, which submitted the sole bid for the project has been aapointed as the supplier of the culvert by the Madison County Fiscal Court. The cost of the culvert stands at $30,000 and the entire installation cost for the project is expected to be about $60,0000.
20% of the project needs to be funded by the county, which can be either paid in funds or as physical labour. Taylor said the county plans to do most of the installation work of the culvert on its own.

The area of the bridge had been affected by flood and faced a fatal car accident several years ago. Knob Lick Bridge is on Knob Lick Road in the eastern part of Madison County close to the Estill County line. The height of the culvert will be less than five feet and will span 19 feet.
"It will allow water to travel through more quickly," Taylor concluded.
