By opting for reusable aluminium bottles over traditional glass ones, Turncoat Gin is taking a proactive step towards sustainability. These aluminium bottles boast a longer lifespan and are lighter in weight, contributing to reduced emissions throughout their lifecycle.

Edward Ridding, head of the distillery, said, "We believe that sustainability should be at the heart of everything we do. Our decision to launch reusable aluminium bottles reflects our dedication to creating a positive impact on the environment. We hope that our partners in the licensed on-trade can work with us to recycle, reuse, and reduce their carbon footprints."

In addition to the environmental benefits, the distillery is committed to minimising waste by promoting the reusability of its aluminium bottles, particularly within the on-trade sector. Furthermore, Turncoat Gin is actively exploring refill options for consumers, further enhancing its sustainability efforts and encouraging a circular approach to packaging.

As per AL Circle's report, "Global ALuminium Industry Outlook 2024", the aluminium packaging sector is expected to continue its growth trajectory in 2024, benefiting from several tailwinds like conscious choice for sustainable packaging options, rising disposable incomes, and urbanisation. Technological advancement is also a factor we must consider. New-age technologies used for aluminium packaging make the result even more attractive.

"Aluminium bottles also offer a range of benefits for our stockists including reduction in breakages and improved product lifespan. This is the first of many changes here at the distillery as we work towards becoming carbon neutral," added Edward Ridding.

Established in 2016, Turncoat was on the brink of closure until it was acquired by Ridding, a former brand ambassador for Bombay Sapphire, last year. The distillery has since found a new home in Love Lane Brewery, situated in Liverpool's vibrant Baltic Triangle. Baileys has recently experimented with aluminium bottles, which were showcased on easyJet flights as part of the Sustainable Spirits Collection trial.
