Harnessing a bold fusion of innovation, design, and stewardship, Lenovo is charting a transformative path in circular tech. Gone are the days when green credentials were mere afterthoughts, today, almost every Lenovo products and accessories is being reimagined through a circular lens. With the ambitious target of embedding closed‑loop recycled materials like aluminium, copper, etc., into 100 per cent of its PC lines by FY2026, the company is weaving sustainability directly into the DNA of its products.
And this is what Lenovo’s FY2025 ESG Report highlights, pointing out an in-depth look at the company’s continued integration of environmental and social priorities throughout its global operations. It highlights initiatives in sustainable product design, circular economy practices, emissions reduction goals, inclusive hiring, and the ethical deployment of AI. These efforts support Lenovo’s broader commitment to achieving science-based net-zero targets by 2050 and fostering responsible innovation across its value chain.
At the heart of Lenovo’s environmental strategy lies its commitment to circular economy principles minimising waste and maximising material reuse. The company is actively expanding the use of closed-loop post-consumer recycled content in its products, including notebooks, desktops, tablets, and accessories. With this approach, Lenovo aims for 100 per cent of its PC devices to contain recycled materials by FY2026.
Laura Quatela, Senior Vice President, Chief Legal & Corporate Responsibility Officer, said, “In 2023, after having our net-zero emissions reduction targets validated by the Science Based Targets initiative, Lenovo shared its Climate Transition Plan. This plan continues to guide our work to measure and manage emissions across our global enterprise. Our close planning and oversight have kept us on-track for our near-term 2030 emissions reduction targets.”
Lenovo’s approach goes far beyond recycled plastics.
By incorporating ocean‑bound plastics and reclaimed metals such as aluminium, copper, and even rare earth elements the company is trimming its reliance on virgin resources while forging more resilient, eco‑responsible supply chains Meanwhile, on the design front, reparability takes centre stage - through collaborations with platforms like iFixit and inventive in‑house solutions, Lenovo empowers users to extend device lifespans, reduce waste, and embrace circularity at every turn.
Complementing this, Lenovo’s Product End-of-Life Management program ensures that returned or obsolete devices are either reused or processed for material recovery, thereby avoiding landfill disposal or export to non-OECD countries.
In FY2025, Lenovo achieved several notable recognitions for its ESG performance. It earned a Platinum rating from EcoVadis, secured the #8 spot on Gartner’s Global Supply Chain Top 25, and received a 9/10 ESG performance score. Additionally, MSCI awarded Lenovo a top-tier AAA ESG rating, while the Hong Kong Institute of Certified Public Accountants honoured the company with the Gold Award for Best Corporate Governance and ESG.
Lenovo’s climate targets are aligned with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The company is committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 50 per cent and cutting Scope 3 emissions from product use by 35 per cent by 2030. It also aims for a 66 per cent reduction in upstream supply chain emissions. Looking ahead to 2050, Lenovo plans to achieve a 90 per cent absolute reduction across all emissions scopes, with any remaining emissions neutralised through certified carbon removal methods.
