One of the leading window and door manufacturers and suppliers in the North of England, Alternative Windows has recently received a seven-figure investment, which is linked to the expansion of the company. The recent investment was led by Ben Watson, who has taken on the role of chief executive officer, joined by Ian Smith as aluminium sales director, while former sales director Darren Pratt has been promoted to managing director and joined the board.
Established in 1988 by shareholders and directors Nigel Fletcher and Darren Barraclough, the Leeds-based company has grown into a key supplier of uPVC and aluminium doors and windows. With a prestigious client portfolio, Alternative Windows carries out refit projects within the social housing sector and supplies aluminium products to the commercial market.
Potts said, “We are happy to have advised the management team on the investment and are delighted to have worked with FDC to deliver the funding, so the management team are able to deliver the exciting growth plan they have for Alternative Windows.”
Neil Davis, who has a strong track record in growing and exiting both his own and private equity-backed businesses, has also joined the board as non-executive chairman. Ben Watson and Ian Smith bring extensive experience from their previous roles on the management team of a major window and door manufacturer, where they played key roles in scaling the business. The investment was provided by Frontier Development Capital, a division of Mercia Asset Management PLC.
The management team received advisory support from Castle Square Corporate Finance, a Yorkshire-based deal advisory firm, and national law firm Irwin Mitchell. Kevan Shaw and Joe Potts of Castle Square led the funding negotiations, managed a structured debt fundraising process to secure the investment, and oversaw the entire transaction process.
Singleton added, “We are proud to have supported the management team through this significant transaction and look forward to seeing Alternative Windows thrive under their leadership.”
The Leeds and Sheffield offices of law firm Irwin Mitchell provided legal support to the management team, led by corporate partner Gavin Maddison and solicitor Luke Singleton, with assistance from solicitor Harry Maw. The Corporate team was further supported by specialists from the Banking & Finance, Real Estate, and Employment departments.
