Lamborghini World Finals 2023 earns ISO 20121 certification for sustainable event management

The Direzione Cor Tauri plan has set Automobili Lamborghini on a path of sustainability, and the Lamborghini World Finals 2023, held at Vallelunga circuit on the outskirts of Rome on November 16 to19, has made yet another remarkable achievement in terms of being 'green'.

The event received ISO 20121 certification, which attests that it was conducted maintaining best practices in environmental, social, and economic sustainability. TÜV Italia, the certifying body for environment, quality, energy, and safety, was responsible for the accreditation. It is a proud moment for Automobili Lamborghini to have earned such recognition for its efforts towards sustainability.

The event prioritised an eco-quality check on the materials used, minimising packaging and disposable plastic items and opting for bio-compostable cutlery and recyclable aluminium containers whenever possible. Aluminium's 100% recyclable property makes it one of the most suitable non-ferrous metals for inducing a circular economy.

The Director of the Business Assurance Division at TÜV Italia, Francesco Scarlata, handed over the ISO 20121 certificate to the Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini, Stephan Winkelmann, who was ecstatic in elaborating: "For us, this recognition represents not only an achievement but also an important moment in the sustainability path undertaken by Lamborghini. Our commitment started way back in 2009 when there was still no widespread attention or sensitivity to these issues. Since then, and thanks to specific tangible actions, we have progressively involved the whole company, including our racing division Squadra Corse."

"In addition to confirming our approach and vision towards everything related to protecting the planet, this recognition for the 2023 World Finals further motivates us to achieve the ambitious goal of a fully sustainable championship," Winkelmann added.

The Vallelunga event was managed sustainably and with a focus on several key areas. Recycling was encouraged to promote waste management, and electric scooters and golf cars were utilised to reduce emissions for staff mobility. Additionally, partnerships were established with local companies to provide organic and locally sourced food and beverages for catering, and a meal recovery program was implemented in collaboration with the Food Bank of Rome. Food donations were delivered to the parish of San Giovanni Battista.

Squadra Corse's successful achievement at the 2022 World Finals is a resounding confirmation of their strategy. This year's accomplishment is even more impressive than their previous ISO 20121 certification for the Misano stage of the Super Trofeo Europe. Their team members, drivers, and technicians have undergone extensive training and awareness-raising initiatives on sustainability issues, demonstrating their commitment to reducing consumption and cutting waste.

Following the ISO 20121 standard, a reporting phase will follow the event to showcase the outstanding results achieved during the race days and to set new goals for the upcoming stages of the tournament.
