A release from the operators, JISCO Alpart said that the ship, Wuchow, steamed into the port on Wednesday afternoon to pick up its cargo of 35,000 tonness of alumina. The shipment is also significant because it is after eight long years that alumina is being exported from Alpart.

Chairman of JISCO Alpart Jamaica, Liu Wanxiang says this first shipment marks a significant milestone for the company and is a testimony to the management and the workers of Alpart. He also added that the employees worked beyond the boundaries of their duty hours and scope to ensure that the deadlines were met.

JISCO Alpart Jamaica, which was closed for last eight years, was purchased from UC Rusal by the Chinese-owned Jiuquan Iron and Steel Company (JISCO) in 2016. Along with the reopening of the alumina refinery at Nain, St. Elizabeth, the company also restarted operations in the mining complex in Manchester, and the port operations at Port Kaiser at Alligator Pond.
