Industrial Physics launches Torus Z345 – enhancing efficiency & accuracy for aluminium & steel beverage cans packaging

EDITED BY : 2MINS READ

Industrial Physics, a global leader in test and measurement solutions, has unveiled two state-of-the-art automated gauges aimed at boosting precision and productivity in metal packaging: the Torus Z606 Automatic Score Inspection Gauge and the Torus Z345 Automatic Color Inspection Gauge.

Industrial Physics launches Torus Z345 for decorating aluminium and steel beverage cans

{alcircleadd}

The Torus Z345 is the world’s leading automatic colour and artwork inspection system featuring integrated X-Rite® technology. Engineered for decorated aluminium and steel beverage cans, it enables high-resolution colour scanning and inspection at precise, pre-defined checkpoints suitable for body diameter, straight-walled, and finished cans.

Cans can be loaded in any orientation, either via an automatic in-feed conveyor or directly from the production line. A high-resolution colour-scan camera captures and ‘unwraps’ the can’s artwork, aligning it with a master reference image. The can is then precisely positioned for inspection by the Ci64 spectrophotometer at a user-selected location. This fully automated process streamlines quality control by reducing manual labour, eliminating human error, and significantly improving the accuracy and speed of colour assessment. The Z345 supports cost-efficiency, generates robust quality data, and boosts overall production output.

The Torus Z606 Automatic Score Gauge delivers exceptional accuracy, repeatability, and ease of use in measuring the score residual on can ends—a critical factor that directly affects a consumer’s ability to open a product safely and efficiently.

By integrating advanced technology into the testing process, end manufacturers can adopt a fully automated, non-contact method that eliminates operator bias, enhances efficiency, and reduces overall operational costs. The system also features pre-programmed measurement positions, ensuring consistent testing at identical locations every time. This enables metal packaging professionals to standardise quality control procedures across multiple production sites worldwide.

Developed by Torus, a renowned brand within the Industrial Physics portfolio specialising in measurement, automation, metrology, and manufacturing technologies, these cutting-edge systems address key quality control challenges faced by can and end manufacturers. Featuring world-class, innovative technology, the new instruments are engineered to elevate and transform quality assurance processes across the metal packaging industry.
