
In December 2018, Indonesia imported USD 15.28 billion worth of goods from around the globe, up by 1.16 percent from a year earlier.Indonesia’s estimated imports of aluminium scrap increased in both volume and value in 2018 when compared to 2017 data.

The USA continued to be the leading source of imported aluminium scraps. The estimated export volume in 2018 was at 60575 tonnes, an increase of 24927 tonnes from 35648 tonnes in 2017. The United Kingdom, Australia and Canada were the other suppliers of aluminium scrap to the country.
Our own third party data show that Indonesia’s imports of aluminium scrap has been increasing for the last three years. The country imported an estimated 120132 tonnes of aluminium scrap in 2018, an increase of 35282 or 41.58% percent year on year. Indonesia had imported 84850 tonnes of this item in 2017.

The country’s import of aluminium scrap is estimated to be about 120438 tonnes by the end of this year.

The total import value of aluminium scrap was estimated at USD 106 million in 2017. Indonesia’s estimated import value in 2018 was at USD 154 million. The value of import is likely to stand at USD 162 million in 2019.
