
India’s aluminium scrap imports from the United States reflected a hike for the second month in a row in August 2021, found the US Census Bureau. According to the data, India imported 45,300 tonnes of aluminium scrap from the US in the said month, up by 11,200 tonnes or 32.84 per cent month-on-month. In July, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US grew 21.35 per cent from 28,100 tonnes in June to 34,100 tonnes.

On a year-on-year calculation, India’s aluminium scrap imports from the US in August 2021 stood 67.8 per cent higher than 27,000 tonnes.
India stood as the second-largest importer of aluminium scrap from the US after Malaysia. From January to August, the country imported 248,000 tonnes of aluminium scrap in total versus 172,000 tonnes a year ago. That was an increase of 44.19 per cent year-on-year.
The United States’ total aluminium scrap exports in August 2021 came in at 188,000 tonnes, up by 18,000 tonnes or 10.59 per cent from 170,000 tonnes in July. On a year-on-year calculation, the exports stood 88.32 per cent higher than 161,000 tonnes.
From January to August, the United States exported 1.340 million tonnes of aluminium scrap, compared to 824,000 tonnes during the corresponding period last year.
