India's leading aerospace precision engineering and manufacturing company Aequs announced at the recently ended Aero India 2017 in Bengaluru that it will invest INR500 crore for setting up a dedicated facility for Indian defence production at Tuem, Goa. The multi capability manufacturing facility which will be a part of the Tuem Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) hub is expected to create around 2,000 highly skilled job opportunities, said IT director and special secretary to the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, Mr Ameya Abhyankar at the event.
Aequs will manufacture defence aerospace components using composites and high-end alloys of aluminium, titanium, steel and other metals. The operations are expected to commence by February 2019. 
Aequs entered into the defence manufacturing in the year 2013 and has been since then actively looking for exciting opportunities to partner with India’s R& D organizations and Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL).
Located in Aequs SEZ in Belagavi, Karnataka, Aequs offers forging capabilities through its group company SQuAD Forging India Pvt Ltd. SQuAD specializes in Aerostructural Parts, Landing Gear and Braking System components in aluminium, steel, titanium or nickel base alloys.
“This is the first venture in the private sector, which will manufacture high-end components and systems for aerospace and defence sector and support the ‘Make in India’ initiative,” Aravind Melligeri, Chairman and CEO, Aequs said.

The new aerospace components manufacturing facility will be set up with an initial investment of INR500 crore. Melligeri said it will be a multi-capability precision engineering with Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines and new age technology to design and produce precision components for the Indian Defence sector.
The company expects to imbibe more technology down the line from aerospace giants across the globe. The transfer of technology would add further to their manufacturing capabilities at the new site while creating employment opportunities for around 2,000 people.
“It will also support the ‘Skill India’ initiative by upskilling employees in the fields of precision manufacturing and other new age technologies, thus bringing a key capability in aerospace manufacturing in the country,” Melligeri added.
