PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum (Inalum) has announced that it will improve its aluminium smelting furnace technology with the help of three EPC companies, namely SAMI, PT Waskita Karya (Persero), and PT Unefeco. The news came after the executive director of PT Inalum (Persero), Sophia Issabella Watimena in Kuala Tanjung, officially announced this while adding the improvement project will enhance the smelting furnace to operate at a current of 235 kA instead of 193 kA.
The improvement will be implemented in potline 1 and as many as 170 furnaces, resulting in the enhancement of Inalum’s aluminium production capacity by 25,000 tonnes per year.
Sophia Issabella Watimena stated, "With the improvement of technology in potline 1 as many as 170 furnaces, it is expected that the production capacity of Inalum can increase by 25,000 tonnes of aluminum per year.”
He added that besides this, Inalum is also currently undertaking other development projects, such as the construction of the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery in Mempawah, West Kalimantan, and the feasibility study process for the construction of the CPC plant.
Expressing appreciation to Inalum, SAMI CEO Ma Ning, said: "We are pleased to cooperate with Inalum in the improvement of aluminum smelting furnace technology. We believe that good cooperation between the companies involved, then the aluminum smelting furnace technology improvement project can be achieved as expected."
SVP EPC Division PT Waskita Karya (Persero) Wisnu Wijayanto and President Director of PT Unefeco Prastowo AZ Mokodompit also communicated their appreciations and commitments to the implementation of this project in accordance with set targets.
