Import of aluminium powder and flakes by the U.S. estimated to rise in Q1 and Q2 on good demand

According to the latest reports from Aluminum Association; shipments of aluminium powder and paste to domestic markets by the U.S. and Canada producers, including imports by domestic producers, totaled 7.96 million pounds during May 2017, an increase of 29% over the May 2016 total of 6.17 million pounds. Aluminium products like powder, paste and flakes have high demand in the US market mostly used in polishing, anodizing applications like Roof Coatings, Marine Coatings, Protective Coatings, Anti-Corrosion Coatings, Decorative Coatings and Industrial Coatings.

{newsStudioGallery}

We are making a comparative analysis of aluminium powder and flakes import by USA in the first two quarters of 2016-17 and FY 2017-18. As shown by our data, the U.S. imported 3407 tonnes of aluminium powder and flakes in Q1 2016-17. Compared with that, import is estimated to increase to 4141 tonnes in Q1 2017-18. For Q2 2016-17, the U.S. imported 4305 tonnes of aluminium powder and flakes. Compared to that, import is estimated to drop YoY to 4140 tonnes in Q2 2017-18.

Sequentially, import is estimated to remain almost flat in the first two quarters of FY 2017-18. However, on a year-over-year analysis, import is estimated to increase in first quarter but to drop in the second quarter.

{googleAdsense}

When we look at the actual data from Aluminum Association for the U.S. and Canada, shipments of Aluminum Powder and Paste (domestic shipment plus import) rose 12.4% in May over the April 2017 total of 7.08 million pounds. YTD shipments through May 2017 totalled 33.90 million pounds, up 16.1% over the 2016 year-to-date total of 29.19 million pounds. Compared to May 2016, shipments of powder to domestic markets increased 30.5% to 6.77 million pounds, while shipments of paste rose 21.1% to 1.19 million pounds.

Looking at the increase in shipment in May, it is expected that by the end of the second quarter of FY 2017-18, the actual import statistics in the U.S. may show a substantial increase in import of aluminium powder and flakes.
